We want students to enjoy learning. Our curriculum reflects our vision and values and is creative, engaging and ambitious

All our students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum and we set our groups by ability. We believe this gives students the best experience, working at the pace necessary to give them the highest possible standard of education.

Students in years 7 and 8 (Key Stage 3) follow courses in the full range of national curriculum subjects.

Our Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed with three main principles in mind:

  • Choice

We believe students thrive when they have a combination of courses they find challenging and interesting.

  • Stretch and Challenge

We have developed pathways that offer additional challenge or support. Some students may study for more qualifications, whilst others may receive additional support in developing their core skills.

  • Progression

Students in Year 7 are starting a journey that prepares them for advanced study later in school life, and the curriculum will help them progress towards that.

In Key Stage 4 students are able to choose from a range of guided options, which allows them to pursue individual interests whilst ensuring that they continue to follow broad pathways. Students have the opportunity to study both academic and high quality vocational courses.

All students receive advice and guidance in their selection of subjects. A course in personal, social and health education is studied by all. The material covers a range of topics including the promotion of fundamental British Values.

The curriculum is enhanced by excellent facilities and resources, including well equipped Technology and Science facilities, a fully-stocked Learning Resource Centre, ICT integrated throughout the school, specialist Music rooms and recording studio and a modern sports hall and dance studio.

Teaching and Learning

Sandon is a great place to study, with an exciting learning environment and an improving track record of success.  The quality of teaching and learning promotes high standards of achievement. Lessons are challenging and everyone is encouraged to contribute their ideas and to give their best.

We are focused on personalising learning which in practical terms provides a structured approach to each child’s learning and assessment for learning. This enhances participation, achievement and progress.

Teaching is tailored to the needs, abilities and interests of each young person. Students grow into mature, independent learners equipped with the skills to adapt to the changing demands of a global economy.
