Y10 students set their sights on ‘ Higher Horizons’
On Tuesday 12th July all Y10 students joined in a Higher Horizons Challenge Day working with a consortium of local universities and employers. The aim of the day was to raise aspirations and encourage students to consider their future career pathways and to develop employability skills. With a Business Conference theme all students attended in formal business dress.
Working in mixed ability teams, students explored ‘what’s on offer’ at local universities in terms of courses, qualifications, enrichment opportunities, locations and facilities. The teams were then challenged to generate new ideas and create a promotional campaign for a chosen university. Shortlisted teams gave a presentation to a panel of judges. The best two teams go forward to the inter-schools finals hosted by Harper Adams University on 19th July.
Mock Business Interviews
To support the development of students’ communication and self-presentation skills, all Year 10 students took part in an interview. Having prepared a Curriculum Vitae, students met with an interviewer and discussed their academic progress, their personal skills and qualities and their career plans. The interview process enabled students to focus on areas to improve, future pathways and developed their confidence.
With more than thirty visitors working with Year 10 students throughout the day, our thanks to Enterprise Days, Rotarians, employers, careers advisors, FE and HE representatives and staff who helped to support this event.
