Pupils will be taught to use calculators effectively in their Mathematics lessons. They are a useful tool to speed up calculations which would be too time consuming if a written or mental method were used. It is pupil learning which is of paramount importance with mathematics being used as a tool in order to reach a lesson objectives. Therefore it will often be appropriate in other subject lessons to use a calculator for long multiplication and division. However, it would not be appropriate to use a calculator to work out simple problems such as 35 + 42. |
